Arbutin

Arbutin

Arbutin is a naturally occurring compound found in plants like cranberries and blueberries. Arbutin inhibits the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in the production of melanin. Arbutin helps reduce melanin production, resulting in a brighter and more even complexion. Therefore, arbutin is often used to treat various forms of hyperpigmentation, including age spots, sunspots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Arbutin has been shown to have antioxidant properties, which help protect the skin from damage caused by UV radiation and environmental pollutants. Arbutin is considered a safer alternative to other skin-lightening ingredients like hydroquinone, which can cause irritation and allergic reactions. Arbutin has mild anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe irritated or inflamed skin. Arbutin is generally well-tolerated by most skin types. Arbutin can be combined with other skincare ingredients such as vitamin C, retinoids, and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) to enhance its skin-brightening effects and overall efficacy.
