PDRN’s full name is polydeoxyribonucleotide. On ingredient lists, you will usually see it listed as Sodium DNA.

In most Korean skincare products, PDRN is derived from salmon DNA. It has been used for years in medical and aesthetic treatments, especially injectables, and has now become a star ingredient in topical products.

Salmon vs Plant-Based PDRN: Which Is Better?

Not all PDRN is the same. Two main types are dominating Korean skincare right now: salmon-derived PDRN and plant-derived PDRN.

Salmon-Derived PDRN

Salmon PDRN is the most researched form and has been used in clinics for many years. Salmon DNA is often quoted as being around 96–98% similar to human DNA, which may explain why our skin recognizes it and responds so well to its regenerative signals.

Does topical salmon-derived PDRN actually work?
